As a travel writer / photographer and blogger, there is usually a camera close at hand. These Galleries showcase some of my favourite photos of places I’ve been.
Each one tells at least a small story – of a moment in time or a grand memory. All are precious, each in their own way. Just click on the country title at the top of each section to have a glimpse of some of the places I’ve loved along my journey.
Places I love, things I’ve seen… Sometimes every day, sometimes once a year, sometimes only once. The magic of Italy – of Tuscany, mainly, but not only – is intoxicating. That is, it fills my senses… Mostly when I choose to slow down and not rush through this place, but even when I’m busy, it quietly whispers to me and I’ll find myself catching my breath as I see what is around me. Spectacular – in the grand views and tiny corners.
…indeed, I do still call Australia home… It is where I am from – that will never change. It is will always be my original home, and Sydney my home town… Although I do love time in Melbourne, and Canberra, and the south east of the country… mainly because it is more familiar than Queensland or states to the west. But also because I prefer the light of the southeast ‘corner’ of Australia.
I first visited Canada as an almost 7-year old… The magic of meeting new cousins was only surpassed by seeing a city on the ocean that also had very tall beautiful mountains. Vancouver has been in my heart since then. Moving there in my late 20s on a 12-month working holiday visa became a dream-come-true. Being able to get my residency, and then citizenship was more than I could have imagined in those first heady months of exploring a new home city. Now, even though it has changed and grown over time, the quiet corners of this place are familiar and welcoming, even in the much-talked about rain… And even the rain has its place – helping the beautiful gardens through the summer and decorating the local mountains with snow in the winter. How perfect!
Travelling in Europe – developing as a photographer
Although I now live in Italy, I first visited my grandparents and extended family in England when I was 6. It just took me a long time to start exploring Europe. Finally, in 2011, I spent two glorious weeks in June visiting a few cities, savouring every moment, every sight and taste… I look back on these photos now and they stir lovely memories, and show me how much my craft as a photographer has grown and changed over time…
Since stepping out of my corporate life and moving to Italy, I’ve had the opportunity to write some articles for other people. Here are a few about Vancouver, Florence and some tips on how to navigate your time in Italy.
